Governor Paterson today accepted with regret the resignation of Jon R. Cohen, M.D. and issued the following statement:
“Several months ago my Senior Advisor and
friend Dr. Jon Cohen told me of his intention to depart state
government to return to the private sector. At my request, he agreed to
stay through the end of this month. As my chief policy advisor he has
been instrumental in crafting my policy agenda, developing long term
strategic planning and assisting me in recruiting talented individuals
to my Administration. On a personal level, Jon has been a trusted
advisor and loyal friend. I look forward to continuing that
relationship for many years to come.”
Dr. Cohen said: “I am very proud to have
served the Governor during this last year and honored to have worked on
behalf of the citizens of the State of New York. Since the day Governor
Paterson was sworn into office, he has been focused on addressing the
unprecedented economic crisis facing all New Yorkers. He is an
extraordinary individual who works tirelessly every day to lead New
York through these challenging times.”
Dr. Cohen’s resignation will become
effective on March 27. On March 30, he will become Chief Medical
Officer and Senior Vice President of Quest Diagnostics, the world’s
leader in diagnostic testing.
