3rd BCT Soldier dies of wounds at Landstuhl RMC

FORT DRUM, NY -- A Soldier from 3rd Brigade Combat Team died Dec. 7 at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit Dec. 3 with an improvised explosive device in Logar province, Afghanistan.

The Fort Drum Soldier killed is Staff Sgt. Dennis J. Hansen, 31, of Panama City, Fla. He deployed with the 3rd Brigade Combat Team in January in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Hansen served as an infantryman in 1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry).

Staff Sgt. Hansen's previous deployments include 16 months in Afghanistan from February 2006 to June 2007 and four months in Iraq from March to July 2004.

Staff Sgt. Hansen joined the military in October 1996 and arrived to Fort Drum in July 2005. He is survived by his wife, two sons and daughter.

Staff Sgt. Hansen's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge.
