GardenShare is offering $5,000 in grants for the creation of school gardens in 2010.
GardenShare believes that the pleasure of eating delicious, wholesomefood belongs to everyone. School gardens offer an innovative way to introduce students to the delights of growing, eating, and sharing healthy food.
Ten grants of $500 each will be awarded to schools that plan and implement a school garden project this summer. Priority will be given to projects that connect a school garden with the classroom, the cafeteria, and the community.
The grants are open to K-12 schools in St. Lawrence, Jefferson, Lewis, Franklin, Clinton, and Essex counties.
To be eligible, a school representative must attend "Dig In! School and Community Garden Training" held on March 30 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at St. Lawrence University. This training is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. For registration instructions, visit the Upcoming Events listing at http://healthquest.gethealthyslc.org/ or call (315) 261-4760 ext. 25. Space is limited, so register today.
Further details about grant guidelines and applications will be available at the Dig In! training.
These grants are made possible through the generosity of Jessica Griffiths and Tim Wennrich in memory of Marianne Wennrich of Canton.
