The Procter & Gamble Fund has selected Clarkson University to receive a Higher Education Grant of $10,000 to better prepare students for successful careers.

The grant will fund the development of a new course, Engineering in Contemporary Society, to improve the engagement of first-year students in the Coulter School of Engineering, motivating them to succeed in their studies.

“Procter & Gamble is a truly global company. As such, we understand the importance for today’s students to be exposed to engineering concepts integrated to the rapidly evolving global world in which they will work,” said Lisa A. Napolione, general manager of global research & development for Procter & Gamble and a Clarkson alumna.

"Procter & Gamble is a perennial supporter of important opportunities at Clarkson," said Clarkson University President Tony Collins. "Programs such as this one help students to excel in their early months on campus, putting them on a course for a successful completion of their degrees. We appreciate Procter & Gamble's generosity, which will benefit many young men and women."

The new course will highlight the diverse applications of engineering skills across disciplines and help students to understand how engineering fits into today’s global realities and its importance in meeting global challenges. It will explore the demands, challenges and rewards of engineering and how the profession intersects and complements the other sciences, technology and math fields.

Founded in 1952 by the Procter & Gamble Company, the P&G Fund provides funding for philanthropic activities, with particular emphasis on bringing P&G's “Live, Learn and Thrive” corporate cause alive in P&G communities around the world.
