OGDENSBURG, NY - Tops Markets announced today that they will be closing their Ogdensburg location, the former P&C store on April 10th, 2010.

Last week, Tops Friendly Markets announced the sale of the remaining Northern NY stores to Price Chopper.  Price Chopper already has a location in Ogdensburg, NY and had not made an offer on that store.

Despite their initial promise not to close stores as part of the purchase agreement for the former P&C stores, the explanation that Tops gave for their decision to sell the NNY stores to Price Chopper - that they were out of the geographic footprint for Tops was indicative of their intent to abandon the Ogdensburg store.

Tops did not indicate initially how many jobs would be affected, saying only that store management and UFCW Local One, the employees' union would be working together over the next few days to address issues including possible re-employment for the affected workers.
