Anyone wearing a heart on any piece of their clothing on Valentine's Day will be admitted to the museum for half of the regular admission rate.
2) Open On President's Day Why not plan a visit to the Sci-Tech Center on President's Day, Monday, February 15th. The Sci-Tech Center will be open on President's Day from 10:00 am to 4:00pm. And don't miss the newly updated display of minerals from around the world, put together by Stuart Price.
3) Extra Sci-Tech Hours During School Break Week During the February school break, the Sci-Tech Center will be open extra hours to give you plenty of opportunity to visit our hands-on exhibits. From Saturday, February 13 through Saturday February 20th, we will be open every day from 10:00am until 4:00pm - including Sunday (Valentine's Day) and Monday (President's Day). 5) Its Not Just Cold This February, Its GOLD! On January 24, 1848, gold was discovered at Sutter's Saw Mill in California, leading to the famous gold rush. Within a year, prospectors were coming from all over the world to reap their fortunes. Then, one hundred and sixty years ago, on February 17, 1850, the largest single day influx of gold diggers arrived, as 22 square-rigged ships entered San Francisco harbor.
In recognition of that event, Wednesday, February 17th will be a golden day at the Sci-Tech Center. Well, maybe not gold, but Fool's Gold. Every child who visits the museum on February 17th, will receive a free specimen of Fool's Gold (Iron Pyrite).
6) Northern New York Science Fair It is almost time for the 2nd Annual Northern New York Science Fair - a regional competition for children in grades four through eight in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence Counties. The Fair will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at Jefferson Community College. There is no cost to participate, however, exhibitors must pre-register. Prizes will be awarded to the winning exhibits, and all exhibitors will receive a certificate of participation.
Students who are unable to attend the main competition at the Fair on May 1, will have the opportunity to compete for separate prizes with a stand-alone written or poster exhibit, by making prior arrangements.
