GOUVERNEUR – Glenn E. Wheeler, 75, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at E. J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur.
Glenn was born January 26, 1934 in Black River, the son of Earl and Ruth Farr Wheeler.
He graduated from Black River High School and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Wheeler was employed at the New York State Department of Transportation, St. Joe Mineral Company, St. Lawrence County Highway Department, and had worked as a self-employed carpenter.
Glenn was a member of the Gouverneur VFW and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and model trains. He also enjoyed playing any musical instrument with strings and was a history buff, especially interested in nostalgia about wars.
Glenn is survived by three sons William and Carol of Lisbon, Clifford and his companion Melodie Kirby of Gouverneur, Warren and Debbie of Lakeville, two daughters Debrah and Ralph Miller of Virginia, Joann and Ricky Mantisi of Rochester, several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by three brothers Howard, Aldon, and Charles and a sister Muriel Ingersoll.
He was previously married to Bonnie Allen.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 28 at 11:00 am at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Dr. Wilfred Baez, pastor of Gouverneur United Methodist Church officiating and burial in Black River Cemetery. Calling hours are today, Friday, from 6-8 pm.
