A Navy SEAL team captured one of the military's most-wanted terrorists, Ahmed Hisham Abed, the man reportedly responsible for hanging the burned and mutilated bodies of four Blackwater Security agents from a bridge on the Euphrates river in Fallujah in 2004.
Three members of the team are now facing charges in a court martial for their alleged conduct during the apprehension of the terrorist.
SO-2 Petty Officer Second Class Matthew McCabe is being charged with assault, reportedly for punching Abed in the face and giving him a bloody lip. He's also being charged with Dereliction of Duty for supposedly failing to safeguard the detainee and making a false statement.
SO-2 Petty Officer Jonathan Keefe and SO-1 Petty Officer Julio Huertas are being charged with Dereliction of Duty and making a false statement.
Abed was captured in early September and held briefly in SEAL custody before being turned over to Iraqi authorities. While in Iraqi custody, Abed allegedly complained that he'd been punched in the face by McCabe - whether the 'assault' occurred while he was in custody or during his capture is unclear.
Fox News obtained a copy of the written statement from one of the witnesses present while the SEALs had custody. His statement indicates that "I did not notice anything wrong with the detainee and he appeared in good health."
The SEAL's are due to be arraigned in military court on charges on Dec. 7th, Pearl Harbor Day.
Ahmed Hisham Abed was wanted for allegedly orchestrating the attack on the Blackwater agents. The four Blackwater personnel were transporting supplies for a catering company when they were ambushed and killed. Their bodies were burned and dragged through the streets of the city before being hung from a bridge on the Euphrates River. The US Military code-named Abed "Objective Amber" and tasked the SEALs with his capture.
