Darius Rucker - History in the MakingThe plot may tell a love story, but the title of Darius Rucker’s latest hit, “History in the Making,” pretty much summarizes his career in country music.

Darius is no stranger to pulling off some amazing chart feats. Back in the 1990s, he was the frontman for Hootie and the Blowfish, a rock band whose 1994 album, Cracked Rear View, sold 16 million copies worldwide. The act also won the Best New Artist Grammy, and they were on the cover of Rolling Stone. That would be enough accomplishments to last most any artist a lifetime.

Darius Rucker’s career was reborn last year, when he released his first country album, Learn to Live. Many were surprised by this mood, but Darius is, after all, a good ol’ boy from Charleston, South Carolina, who grew up watching “Hee Haw.” You can’t deny that the Hootie sound was southern rock-influenced. Darius has said that if Hootie and the Blowfish were just starting out today, they’d have nowhere to go but country radio.

We got out first glimpse of the country side of Darius Rucker in a nonsensical and quite bizarre way; he played a singing cowboy in a Burger King commercial, crooning about their chicken-bacon-ranch-wrap (and personal vegetarian nightmare) sandwich. Did you miss it? Or just want to relive that moment again? Thank goodness for YouTube… What’d we do without it?? www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUyzLvuhbps

The first three singles off Learn to Live (“Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It,” “It won’t Be Like This For Long,” and “Alright”) all zoomed to the top of the country chart, making Darius the first black artist to hit the prime spot on Billboard’s country chart since Charley Pride hit #1 with “Night Games” in 1983. And, just a couple of weeks ago, Darius became the first African-American EVER to win the CMA award for New Artist of the Year.

Darius co-wrote his current single, “History in the Making” with Frank Rogers and Clay Mills. While it’s not necessarily autobiographical, he says that writing love songs is easy for him. A devoted family man, and father of three children, Darius has been married to wife Beth for eight years.

He’s already toured with a couple of the biggest names in country: Brad Paisley and, more recently, Rascal Flatts. Gary, Jay and Joe Don of RF became good friends and golf buddies with Darius; they still keep in touch.

“History in the Making” is the fourth and probably final single from Learn to Live. We can look forward to a new country disc from Darius in the first half of 2010! Check out the video here today!
