Dierdre Scozzafava was supported by most Republicans against their better judgement, Dierdre Scozzafava received over a million dollars from Republican committees, organizations, and PAC'S, and Dierdre Scozzafava decided to return the favor by endorsing a liberal Democrat, and sided with a Democratic takeover of a congressional district/area which has remained in Repubican control since before the Civil War.

We should have seen this coming, as Scozzafava holds Progressive views in regards to abortion, homosexual marriage, financial policies, organized unions, financial bailouts, and received a 15% rating from the Conservative Party of New York in regards to her 2008 legislative voting record, the lowest among all Republicans. Scozzafava's congressional endorsements include the largest union in New York state, the New York State United Teachers, a Republican organization which supports female pro-abortion candidates, The Wish List, received endorsements from the ACORN associated Working Families Party in previous elections, and even Markos Moulitsas of the Daily Kos supported Scozzafava's campaign.

When Dierdre Scozzafava was selected as the Republican candidate to replace Congressman John McHugh after he resigned to become the Secretary of the Army, few noticed, except for fellow candidate for the Republican nomination, Doug Hoffman, who would later become the Conservative candidate and frontrunner amongst those on the right side of the political spectrum. Though, Hoffman initially supported Scozzafava's bid for Congress, he would later become a candidate himself after more of her radical views came to head.

As it has been revealed, Scozzafava was not only under consideration to run on the Republican line, she was also approached by a Democrat asking if she might run on the Democratic line for the then congressional election upcoming, and even a few Internet websites we're created by Progressive activists in the 23rd congressional district supporting a Democratic run by Ms. Scozzafava, due to her Progressive stances on abortion, homosexual marriage, among other issues.

Conservative Party Chairman, Michael Long, would later relate a meeting he had with Scozzafava a few weeks before Republican officials would make their choice, "I was approached by someone in Dede Scozzafava's sphere who said she wanted to meet with me. I said this is going nowhere, but they persisted, so I agreed to meet with Dede in Lake Placid. At the meeting, which took place just a few weeks before the Republican County Chairmen met in Potsdam to select their nominee, she told me that the Democrats had been talking to her about running in the special election as a Democrat. 'Wouldn't you rather be with the winner?' she asked me. I came away from that meeting convinced that she was completely devoid of any principle".

After the nominations we're made official in October, Doug Hoffman's campaign gained momentum, and the endorsement of Doug Hoffman by various Conservative organizations and individuals including the Club for Growth PAC, and former United States Senator and candidate for the Republican nomination Fred Thompson, Scozzafava's campaign would collapse.

Scozzafava's campaign collapsed after holding an awkward press conference outside of Hoffman's campaign headquarters in Watertown that backfired on her as Hoffman supporters made a background of "Hoffman for Congress" signs behind her, and an incident earlier in the week in which her campaign called the cops on a reporter from the Weekly Standard, and the national attention the congressional race received because the Republican nomination to replace a Republican Congressman from a fairly Conservative district in Upstate New York, went to a Republican who was to the left of the Democrat candidate.

On October 31st, Scozzafava ended her campaign leaving Conservative Doug Hoffman and Democrat Bill Owens as the last official candidates in the election, during Scozzafava's farewell message, she proclaimed herself a proud Republican, "I am and have always been a proud Republican. It is my hope that with my actions today, my Party will emerge stronger and our District and our nation can take an important step towards restoring the enduring strength and economic prosperity that has defined us for generations.", however, just 24 hours later she would stand against Republicans.

After near 1 million dollars was spent on her campaign, Scozzafava decided to repay National and local Republicans with an open endorsement of the Democratic candidate, Bill Owens, thus supporting a Democratic takeover of a congressional district/area which has remained in Republican hands since before the Civil War. Scozzafava's pro-organized union position would be the clincher in her decision of supporting Democratic candidate, Bill Owens, over fellow Republican, Doug Hoffman.

Her support for the Employee Free Choice Act, which if enacted would nearly eliminate the secret ballot in unionization elections, was the main reason for her endorsement of Owens just two days before the election, "Hoffman’s opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act, coupled with his support for the failed policies of the Bush Administration make him a poor choice to serve the citizens of the 23rd Congressional District", Scozzafava's endorsement could have been confused as Democratic rhetoric.

Since Scozzafava's endorsement of Bill Owens, she has been stripped of her Republican leadership position, Democrats have turned "Scozzafava" into a verb to use against Conservative Republican counterparts, and she has even had the gall to discuss "principles" in the weeks afterward, "We need leadership that's going to make sure that the party is strong going forward and that independent voices are heard from all ranks of the party", she also added this dandy, "Hopefully a lesson can be learned, and we can move forward and make the party stronger.", just a few weeks after supporting a Democrat over a Republican who Independents flocked to.

Dierdre "Dede" Scozzafava was first elected to public office as a Village Trustee in Gouverneur New York, that was in 1989, after one of the most successful administrations in Modern America left office, two decades later, now Assemblywoman Scozzafava, would become the highest touted reason of why Republicans should support more Conservative minded candidates.

First elected to the New York Assembly in 1998, Scozzafava has built a reputation of being among the small population of Republicans who are Liberal in thought, as her pro-homosexual marriage, pro-choice, strong connections to organigized labor, past endorsements received from the ACORN associated Working Families Party in various elections, and a dismal 15% rating from the Conservative Party of New York has left most Republicans with a foul taste in their mouth in regards to Scozzafava.

The betrayal of Scozzafava is still fresh in the minds of perspective Republican candidates in regards to the Republican primary in New York's 122nd Assembly District, and her future is dark indeed. However, her future is not dark because of harsh opposition from Conservatives within the GOP, it is dark because of support of Democratic ideals and candidates, something Republicans are supposed to oppose.
