Today the Frog Blog spotlight is on Kings Mountain, North Carolina native, Jimmy Wayne.
I follow LOTS of country stars on Twitter, and of all of them, I think Jimmy is the most active. (Oops… I take that back; I just logged on and there were 12 Tweets in a row by Kellie Pickler.) I especially love following JW because he posts lots of pics of himself, whether he is shopping, ready to go onstage, working in the recording studio, or hitting the sack. Check out some of Jimmy’s recent Tweets:

About that “Sara Smile” song… Of course it is familiar-sounding because it’s a faithful remake of the 1975 pop hit by Hall & Oates. Jimmy has been performing the tune in concert long before he had a record deal. In fact, it was this tune that got him a recording contract in the first place, after Scott Borchetta, who was then with DreamWorks Records, heard the singer perform the song live.
Jimmy recalls: “Over 13 years ago, I picked a Hall & Oates Greatest Hits CD out of a bargain box that sat outside the department store in the old Gaston Mall in Gastonia, North Carolina. I listened to the CD on my way home and I heard 'Sara Smile' for the first time. I began singing this song long before I knew how to play it on guitar and I just felt like it was as if the song was written for me.”
Darryl Hall and John Oates themselves helped Jimmy Wayne remake their ballad. It sounds more pop than country, but then again so do Rascal Flatts. Maybe this will become a crossover hit on the Adult Contemporary charts?? I hope so. Jimmy is so grateful to his fans and to country radio, constantly giving them props on Twitter. I like that he hasn’t let success go to his head.
Don’t forget to pick up a copy of Jimmy Wayne’s Sara Smile CD next Tuesday. Enjoy the video here today.
