Vehicle loses traction on icy pavement

ANTWERP, NY - State Police in Alexandria Bay are investigating a two-car fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred at approximately 7:31 a.m. on CR-22 in the Town of Antwerp, Jefferson County.

A vehicle operated by Donna M. Niles, 49, of Gouverneur, NY was traveling west on CR-22. A vehicle operated by Bridgette J. Sharlow, 19, of Chaumont, NY was traveling east on CR-22. Niles' vehicle lost traction on an ice-covered section of roadway and crossed the center line. Niles' vehicle entered the path of Sharlow's vehicle and collided with same. Niles was transported from the scene by Theresa Ambulance to Samaritan Medical Center where she was later pronounced deceased. Neither Sharlow nor an adult passenger were injured.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Theresa Volunteer Fire Department and Fire Police.
