Mary A. Noble,
91, died at home on November 9th. She was born Mary Antoinette
Tripp on November 8, 1918 in Champion, NY, and moved to Edwards with
her mother Ethel (Spicer) Tripp as a teenager. She graduated from Edwards
High School in 1936 and from Potsdam Normal School in 1939. She taught
five years in the Brodie, Barraford and Scotland districts of Edwards.
She married Earl V. Noble on August 23, 1944 at her home, and together
they raised six children and ran a dairy farm.
Mrs. Noble
taught at Edwards Central School for 19 years, retiring in 1977. She
and her husband spent several years traveling, and they enjoyed their
camp at Smith Pond for many years.
Mary was a
lifelong seamstress, piano player and writer. She was a member of the
Edwards Methodist Church where she was a substitute organist since the
age of 13. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Edwards
Grange, the Edwards Alumni Association and NYS Teachers Association.
Mary is survived
by her husband Earl of Edwards; a son Roger W. and Maryon Noble of Irvington,
NY; four daughters and sons-in-laws Rosemary J. and Karl French of Edwards,
Barbara L. and Alfred Fenton of S. Edwards, Bonnie N. and John Danis
of Rensselaer Falls and Margaret A. and Robert Hockett of Canton; 16
grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mary is predeceased
by her mother Ethel (Spicer) Tripp, her father Dale Tripp, a brother
Clinton Tripp who died in infancy, a brother Gordon Tripp and a son
Raymond E. Noble who died in 1967.
Calling hours
will be on Wednesday from 7-9 and on Thursday from 10-11am at French
Funeral Home Inc., Edwards. The funeral will be on Thursday at 11:00am
at the funeral home with lay speakers Marilyn Constatine and William
Strate officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Edwards.
