GOUVERNEUR, NY – Robert J. Conklin, 77, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur.

Robert was born January 1, 1932 in Richville, the son of Lee and Vera Cole Conklin. He attended schools in Gouverneur, and then served overseas in the US Army during the Korean War. He owned and operated a dairy farm near Somerville, had worked at Riverside Ironworks, Gouverneur Bowl, and was service manager at Dodds Motor Company for many years.

Mr. Conklin married Doris Burrell Billings on February 17, 1968. Doris passed away March 17, 2007 .

Robert enjoyed tinkering on motors, gardening, hunting, and camping. He was a member of the Gouverneur VFW.

Bob is survived by two daughters Lorraine and her husband Leland Taylor of Fowler, Linda and her husband Jon Boyd of Tucson, AZ, a stepson William and his wife Elaine Billings of Ilion, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, two brothers, Eldon and his wife Eloise Conklin of Gouverneur, Richard and his wife Nancy Conklin of Florida, a sister Emma Wells of Hermon. He is predeceased by two brothers Joe and Howard Conklin.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, October 4 at 2:00 pm at Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur with Rev. Dr. Wilfred Baez, pastor of Gouverneur United Methodist Church officiating. There are no calling hours and arrangements are with Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur.
