George E. WilliamsGeorge E. Williams, age 66, of Edwards, was called Home to be with the Lord on August 15, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and friends. 

George E. Williams was born on August 7, 1943 in St. Albans, NY to the late Norman Elmer and Shirley C. (Squires) Williams. He graduated from Rondout Valley High School in Kyserike, NY and went on to attend Ulster County Community College. He served in the United States Navy USNMCB9 (Seabees) where he was an engineering aid from 1964-1970 serving two tours in Vietnam. He then spent twenty years in the New York Army National Guard from 1976-1996 in 1Bn 156 Th FA and retiring as 1SG.  

George married Dianna L. Petersen on October 11, 1964 in Kingston, NY. He worked for Brinnier & Larious, PC as a land surveyor and draftsman and retired as a resident engineer in 2006 after working there for 44 years. He lived in the Kingston area most of his life with about 30 years in Eddyville. He and his wife have lived in Edwards since 2007. George enjoyed “picking at the banjo”, fishing, hunting and playing golf. He also enjoyed spending time in his Christian faith and was a founding father of Stepping Stone Ministries. He was a life member of the American Legion Rosendale-Tillson Post #1219 and a member of the VFW Saugerties Post #5034. 

In addition to his wife, Dianna of Edwards he is survived by three sons; George E. Jr. and Tracey Quinn of Saugerties, NY, Scott A. and Amber of Crestview, Fl and Jason and Carly of Eddyville, NY, three brothers; Norman E. and Liangyu Williams, Jr. of Olympia, WA, Dennis J. and Ellen of Rosendale, NY and William R. and Terry of West Saugerties, NY, four sisters; Diane L. Weeks of Rifton, NY, Marilyn R. and Edward Bennett of Kingston, NY, Valerie C. and Thomas Smith of Accord, NY and Laura M. and Greg Eckerd of Havelock, NC; a sister-in-law, Deborah Stein of Poughkeepsie, NY. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Konnor, Kylie, Hunter, and their mother, Kimberly Williams, Lauryn, Zachary, Haley, and Cooper. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. 

George is predeceased by a brother Richard who died in infancy and a granddaughter, Kennedy. 

There will be no calling hours. There will be a memorial service at Stepping Stone Ministries, 165 Smith Road, Fowler, on Friday, August 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Orville Eacker of Stepping Stone Ministries officiating.  

Arrangements are with French Funeral Home, Edwards.
