Funeral services for Florence E. Evans, 95 a resident of the St.
Joseph’s Nursing Home and formerly of Route 37 Hammond, will be held on
Friday (July 3, 2009) beginning with calling hours at 12:00noon until
the time of the service at 1:00pm at the Fox-McLellan Funeral Home with
Pastor Cathy Stevenson officiating. Burial will follow the service at
the Fineview Cemetery in Hammond.
Mrs. Evans passed away on Monday (June 29, 2009) at the St. Joseph’s Nursing Home.
Surviving are two sons Donald Evans & his wife Pat of Argyle,
NY, Philip Evans & his wife Janet of Cave Creek, AZ; a daughter
Mrs. Corleen Strader of Watertown; four grandchildren Joanne &
Timothy Lawton of Newark Valley, NY, Gregory & Kathy Evans of Lake
Oswego, OR, Andrea & Jerome Elwell of Phoenix, AZ & Eric &
“Scottie” Evans of Texas; six great grandchildren and several nieces,
nephews & cousins.
She was predeceased by a brother Howard Nicol and a son-in-law Lawrence Strader.
Florence was born on January 17, 1914 in Hammond, NY a daughter of
the late Archie & Luella (Decker) Nicol. She graduated from Hammond
Central High School and married Albert D. Evans on December 15, 1936 at
the Hammond Presbyterian Parsonage. She owned and operated a farm with
her husband for several years, and was a member of the Hammond
Presbyterian Church where she also taught Sunday school and religious
instructions for several years.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing the piano and bringing comfort to ill people.
