Floyd O. Zehr, 71, of Gouverneur, died Saturday, June 20th, 2009 at his home under care of his family and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.

Mr. Zehr was born November 15th, 1937 in Castorland, the son of Oliver and Belle Coughlin Zehr.  He attended Gouverneur High School until joining the U. S. Navy in 1956 and worked as a jet mechanic on the aircraft carriers USS Intrepid, USS Randolph, USS Ranger, and USS Forstall.

He then worked for Rouse Construction Co. and paper mills for 13 years before employment at Gouverneur Talc Co. where he was an oiler in the maintenance department and he retired in 2000 after 27 years.

He enjoyed cabinet making, woodworking crafts, and cooking at hunting camp.  He married Gloria Miller on April 2nd, 1967 in Mexico, NY.

He is survived by his wife Gloria, a son Randy W. and Sheila Zehr of Stevensville, MI, 3 daughters Deborah D. and Lonnie Manning of Gouverneur, Laurie L. and Stanley Young Jr. of Gouverneur and Dave Gougan of Johnson City, 2 stepsons Harold and Dwayne Blandin of Hermon, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, a sister Darlene Yuhasz of Watertown, neices, nephews, and his poodle Snickers. 

He was predeceased by his parents Oliver Zehr and Belle Colbur, a sister Helena Zehr, and his grandmother Amy Coughlin who raised him.  

A graveside service will be held in Hailesboro Cemetery in July and there are no calling hours.  Arrangements are with Green Funeral Home in Gouverneur.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
