Richard
F. Anable, 79, of 6198 Sunnyside Dr., Homer, passed away on Thursday,
June 4, 2009 after a brief battle with esophageal cancer.
He was
born December 16, 1929, a son of the late John and Helene Murray
Anable. Richard was a longtime resident of the Homer area having moved
there from Rockland County after many years there.
Born and
raised in Ogdensburg, Richard enlisted in the New York National Guard
in 1948, transferring to the US Air Force in 1951, where he was
honorably discharged in 1955.
He worked for a number of years at
the Rockland Psychiatric Center, retiring as a Plumbing Supervisor in
1985 when he moved to Homer to be closer to his family.
Mr.
Anable was a life member and past president of both the S.W. Johnson
Fire Department, Garnerville, and the Rockland County Fireman’s
Association. He was a longtime member of the Burns-McCauliffe Post #465
American Legion of Homer.
Surviving are two children, Richard P.
Anable and his fiancée, Linda, of Amityville, and Robin (Terry) Holmes
of Homer; five grandchildren, Jason (Cecelia) Anable, Richard Anable,
Melissa Holmes, Kristen (Steven) Hayes and Kevin Holmes; a
great-grandson, Connor Hayes; siblings Bill Anable of Ogdensburg, Bob
(Jean) Anable of Mount Clemens, MI; Ann (Newt) Ward of Fulton and Paula
(Harvey) Grace of Ft. Meyers, FL; and several nieces, nephews and
cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife, Bette T. Anable, in 1996; two brothers, James and Tommy Anable; and a sister, Winifred Mays
Calling hours will be held on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer.
Funeral
services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Margaret’s Roman
Catholic Church, 14 Copeland Ave., Homer, where a Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. R. Daniel DeLorme. Interment with
military honors will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in Glenwood
Cemetery, Homer.

Avenue, Hudson, NY 12534.
