Hard to believe that winter has only just begun. It feels like it’s been here for quite! Fortunately, we were spared the nasty snowstorm that dumped twenty inches of white stuff on other parts of the eastern U.S. But still, it is COLD!! Today’s holiday song and video by Joey and Rory ought to warm you up…
Joey and Rory are the husband-wife duo (she’s Joey, he’s Rory) that first won the hearts of country music lovers on CMT’s “Can You Duet.” They had a big hit last year with “Cheater, Cheater” and starred in a series of warm & fuzzy Overstock.com commercials.
Their first holiday recording, “It’s Christmastime,” was inspired by a trip to Joey’s childhood home in Indiana. Rory shares: “Just sitting in the house where Joey grew up made me think about all the Christmases she spent there. All the trees they picked out and decorated, all the gifts wrapped while the kids tried to sneak downstairs, all the Christmas dinners cooked and the last-minute guests who showed up at their door. I woke up early in the morning before anyone else, pulled out my guitar and wrote the song with all that in mind.”
The first time he played it for Joey, “I just got all choked up and teary-eyed,” she said. “It painted a picture of what my childhood Christmases were like.”
As if that weren’t sweet enough, some of the proceeds from sales of the single will benefit a worthy cause: Feeding America, The Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee.
“I think for us it was just important that we reach out, especially during the holiday season, to try and have the proceeds of what we're doing go to help people who are hungry,” said Joey.
