Keith Urban and Taylor Swift are among the various stars in the music and movie industries who will take part in a global telethon to assist Haitian earthquake victims on January 22. Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief was organized largely by actor George Clooney. The event will go down in history as will be the most widely-distributed telethon ever, airing simultaneously on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, BET, The CW, MTV, VH1, PBS, CMT, Showtime, HBO and a host of others. In addition, Hope for Haiti Now will be streamed online on sites including YouTube, HuLu, MySpace and Yahoo.
Singer Wyclef Jean, who is Haitian-born, also had a big role in bringing this epic event together. He will be anchoring a portion of the show from New York City, while George Clooney will be reporting from Los Angeles. CNN’s Anderson Cooper will be stationed in the heart of the disaster area in Haiti.
So far, here’s a list of who is performing and where: Wyclef Jean, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson and Sting New York City; Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys, Dave Matthews, Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Christina Aguilera, Kid Rock Sheryl Crow, and Taylor Swift and Keith Urban; Jay-Z, U2 and Coldplay in London.
All the musical performances will be made available for purchase on iTunes the day after Hope for Haiti Now airs, for 99 cents each. The proceeds will be used for relief funds in the devastated country.
Facebook and Twitter have jumped aboard as official media partners, to help boost donations and to draw attention to the telethon.
