Well, y’all know that I can only let so much time go by without doing a blog on Keith Urban. Yep… Here we go again!
Keith and his superstar actress wife, Nicole Kidman, enjoyed a nice, long Christmas and New Year’s holiday in their native Australia. When they weren’t spending time with their families, Keith, Nic and little Sunday Rose hung out in their luxurious, 21st-floor, $6 million penthouse apartment in Sydney.
Upon returning to the States, Keith won his first award of the New Year, nabbing the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Male Artist. This was a pretty cool feat, as the category encompasses all genres. Keith actually beat out popular artists like John Mayer and Eminem!! He created a bit of a stir on Music Row when, in his acceptance speech, he thanked his fans for buying his records… and in some cases, not. “I don’t care if you download it illegally and give it to your friends. I really don’t care,” Keith said. His fans cheered. Songwriters, musicians and record company bigwigs cried foul. It’s pretty cool of Keith, in my opinion. He’s made enough money (he and Nicole raked in $17 million last year, according to Forbes) where he can make music just for the love of it and give it away! Sweet.
Keith’s latest hit, “Til Summer Comes Around” is the fourth single from his Defying Gravity CD. He co-wrote it with frequent songwriting partner, Monty Powell. Monty told TheBoot.com: “When Keith started playing the guitar riff that opens up the song, we felt it conjured up the ocean in winter ... when it's cold and slate gray. It wasn't long after that we started thinking about an empty boardwalk and then we thought, 'There's nothing more desolate than an empty amusement park, where nothing is moving. All the rides have stopped and all the people are gone.'” The guys built on those vivid mental images to complete the song’s poignant lyrics.
The video for “Til Summer Comes Around” was filmed in Southern California last fall. Enjoy!
