Brad Paisley is off to a running start in the first few weeks of the New Year. He’s busy finishing up the last leg of his “American Saturday Night” tour. Miranda Lambert and Justin Moore are his opening acts. Last weekend, Brad was the first act to perform at the brand new INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, KS. The concert sold out well in advance. Brad’s been a pretty solid seller on the concert circuit; he played in front of more than 1.2 million fans in 2009. 52 out of his 75 shows sold out. Quite memorably, Paisley teamed up with tour sponsor Chevy to present the lucky one millionth ticket holder with a spankin’ new Chevy Silverado. Nice.
In addition to his current tour, Brad will be one of the many artists performing at the Houston Livestock and Rodeo event. Billed as “the world’s largest livestock exhibition,” the show will run from March 3rd through the 21st. Brad takes the stage on Thursday, March 11. Other acts on the bill include Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, Gary Allan, Lady Antebellum, Darius Rucker, Toby Keith, Blake Shelton, Dierks Bentley, Tim McGraw, Brooks and Dunn (aren’t they retired yet?!?), Alan Jackson, Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban. Sounds like it’d be worth making the trip down there, with a lineup like that! Tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster on Saturday (1/16). A link to the Houston Livestock and Rodeo’s website is provided at the end of this blog.
As far as resolutions go, Brad has set a pretty lofty goal for himself this year. He wants to collaborate with his guitar hero, Eric Clapton. He’s never met the rock legend, but says that he hopes that if he keeps stalking about it enough, Eric will hear about his wish and agree to hit the recording studio together. As country fans know, Brad has a lot of star-studded collaborations under his belt already, including Keith Urban (“Start a Band”), Alison Kraus (“Whiskey Lullaby”) and Dolly Parton (“When I Get Where I’m Going”).
On January 31st, Brad is up for a couple of Grammys: Best Country Collaboration with Vocals for “Start a Band,” featuring Keith Urban and, oddly enough, Rock Instrumental Performance for “Playing With Fire.” Both are from Brad’s “Play.”
Brad Paisley’s current CD, “American Saturday Night,” was named the Top Album of 2009 by Time Magazine. Enjoy the title track here today.
