The Zac Brown Band has plenty to brag about. “Chicken Fried” was the top-played song of 2009 at country radio, and “Toes” was the year-end #1 country song played in dance clubs. Last May, the band nabbed an ACM for Top New Vocal Duo or Group.
2010 looks like it’s going to be yet another excellent year for the ZBB. On January 31st, they’ll perform at the 52nd annual Grammy Awards. They also happen to be nominated for a couple of the prestigious trophies: Best Country Album, for The Foundation, Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group for “Chicken Fried.” The show will be broadcast live on CBS.
For diehard ZBB fans who would like to experience more than just a concert, you might want to check out the Sailing Southern Ground cruise, a “floating festival” hosted by the band September 6-10. Their goal is to bring fans together “from all over the globe, for one hell of a good time.” Rates are pretty reasonable too: $149 for a cabin! The ship departs from Tampa, with a stop in Grand Cayman. According to the event website, fans can expect “an incredible main stage show from your host Zac Brown Band, with many more musicians to be added later.” A link to more info on this cruise and to purchase tickets follows this blog.
Meanwhile, the Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett will join forces on an upcoming episode of CMT Crossroads. They taped the show before an invitation-only crowd last month in Nashville, playing each other’s biggest hits, from ZBB’s “Toes” to Jimmy’s “Margaritaville.” The episode is slated to premiere in March. The legendary Buffett told the packed audience: “I went to see Zac Brown a few months ago and as I suspected, he reminds me of what I was doing 25 years ago. The torch gets passed on, so here's the torch, man!”
