The first few months of 2010 are going to good ones for country music lovers, with new releases on the way from Lady Antebellum (1/26), Josh Turner (2/9) and Gary Allan (3/9). By springtime, we should be able to get our hands on a new disc by Randy Hauser as well.
2009 was very kind to this Lake, Mississippi native. His first two hits, “Anything Goes” and “Boots On” earned him bragging rights as the most-played new artist of the year. In fact, Country Aircheck, a leading radio trade publication, named Randy THEE overall Artist of the Year. He also was nominated for two CMA Awards. Additionally, Randy continued to develop his fan base last year with a 30-city, CMT-sponsored tour with Jamey Johnson.
And let’s not forget the now-famous story regarding David Letterman; the late night talk show host heard “Anything Goes” on the radio and had “his people” track the singer down and book him on the show last August. Randy told the country music website the9513.com of his reaction when he first got the news: “Honestly, the funny part was that I really thought they were playing a joke on me. I got an email from my manager, who is always playing jokes of some kind. He sent an email saying that I was confirmed for the show—and that’s all I got. And I went ‘bull s***’, you know? I So I called the label and they confirmed it, and I was like, what? Why? I didn’t understand it. It was crazy, man.”
So what’s on the agenda for Houser in 2010? Well, he rang in the New Year by playing a show at Wild Bill’s in Duluth, GA. Looking at Randy’s tour itinerary, I see nothing on his schedule until August 1st at the Log Jam Country Music Festival in Phillips, WI. At the rate he’s going, I’m pretty sure something will pop up between now and then. He’s currently in the studio, recording his sophomore album. Randy recently shared via his Twitter that the project “should be out in April.”
The first single from that upcoming project, “Whistlin’ Dixie,” is burning up the charts right now. You can enjoy the video here today.
